The
Language courses have an enrollment of around 20
students, fewer at the beginner level and only a
dozen in the oral expression courses.
|
The
number of courses that students may select varies
according to their level.
|
A
number of Option courses are offered several times
but they are taught at different levels in order to
be better adapted to student comprehension.
|
The
mandatory Language course includes 12, 9 or 6 hours,
depending on the level, weekly. The other courses
are normally taught 3 hours per week.
|
|
Classes are held every day except Saturday and
Sunday. |
|
Students who want to obtain credits for a
semester but who have to leave
CIDEF at Christmas and not at the end of January,
are advised to participate in the September
pre-university program. |
| |
|
Placement Tests |
After
a 2 hour written and oral placement test, students
are assigned to the Language class which suits them
the best. |

During the month of September, the advanced level
course is especially adapted to the needs of those
who, during the year, will be taking classes with
French students. |
| |
|
Methods |
 |
Lexical enrichment using
news and opinion texts which deal with
French life – spelling exercises. |
 |

grammatical structures and
French particularities. |
 |
Comprehension exercises
from authentic documents. |
 |
Personal work on a book
(novel or short story) read and
studied outside of class and presented
through written and oral reports. |
 |
At the advanced level, students are asked to
write a meticulously structured thesis. This
thesis, prepared under the direction of a
Language professor, must include 3000 words
and treat a subject that has a relationship
to France and the French today, in areas as
varied as politics, society, the economy,
